There is no doubt that this pregnancy has FLOWN by. I cant even believe that as I write this I am just 2 months away from having a newborn. There are so many moments that I am proud of and loved, and yes..there are some realties that shaped my experience that are worth shining a light on to help other women who read this. Here is what I LOVED and what I WISH I would have done from weeks 13-28.
- I’ve loooooved staying active! I cannot tell you enough how happy I am that I kept up with my workouts pretty steady while in my 2nd trimester. I think dedicating 30 minutes to moving my body has not only helped me physically, but mentally. Being physically active has helped my attitude and my focus.
- I wish I would have treated myself to more spa trips. Not that its too late now, but I totally could have used the extra massage or 3. There are days that your body is just plain ol tired and hurts. Spend the money..get a Groupon, and just relax. I have a feeling this will be even harder for me to do come November.
- I’ve looooooved my 20 week ultra sound! Although completely terrifying at first because the doctor is literally scanning my baby for any one thing to be “wrong”, I also got to see my baby’s face so clearly. I personally don’t “need” another ultra sound in my 3rd trimester according to my doctor so my 20 week appointment was the last lil glimpse I get before birth. So, as scary as it is, try and cherish it because you might be like me and not get another time to see baby at the doctors.
- I wish I got that 2nd trimester “energy” everyone talks about. I swear I have been “Sleepy” from Snow White this entire time. Don’t get me wrong my drowsiness was worse in my first trimester and now into my 3rd…but every baby app I have claims I was supposed to experience this new found “life” and be so awake haha. Not this girl. BUT I haven’t napped…so I wish I would have napped more. I work a full time job, so its not like I can just stop my day to nap, but I have stayed so busy that even though I was tired, I never really “stopped”. So if you are reading this and are a “doer” like me…go nap and give yourself the break.
- I looooooved our baby moon! It was on our trip to Florida at 18 weeks that we found out Its a BOY! You can read all about our non-traditional gender reveal, but it was such an emotional experience. I HIGHLY encourage you to go on some type of trip during this time so that you can get away from the “noise” and stress of it all.
- I wish I bought more maternity clothes. Because I was in my second trimester during the summer, I got away with not really needing a lot of maternity wear and to be honest its expensive and I did not want to spend the money. BUT now that I am much much bigger into the final stretch, NOTHING fits. (insert Mean Girls quote here). So, my advice is to just buy a few staples so that you have them later when, if you are like me and will need them more.
- I looooooved all the help I got for my registry! One of my besties gave me a huge list of items that I needed with suggestions to help me build my baby registry. It was AWESOME. If you don’t know anyone who has a list like this, you can literally go on Pinterest and find one just like it. Here is a simple one I like. Also, Instagram has been a huge tool! I have posted so many questions to my story and the mommy tribe is quick to offer support. Do not be afraid as a FTM to ask every little question that comes to mind OR to use social media for a quick response.
- I wish it didn’t go by so fast! Seriously, the mamas that tell you the 2nd trimester goes by the fastest are NOT lying, It does. Enjoy it. There are so many things “to-do” to get ready for baby that I encourage you more than ANYTHING you will read or prepare for is to just enjoy the blessing thats happening.
