First Trimester Recap

Belly Update
It is amazing to see my body change! I look back at that 11 week picture and remember thinking “OMG I’m showing!”

As I get closer to entering my 3rd trimester of this pregnancy, I realize I have learned a lot while #becomingmama. Like with many life events, this is my first time going through this journey. You probably know that it is filled with emotions, weird symptoms, bodily changes and the like. So here is a quick view of my first 12 weeks and the resources that have helped me along.

Weeks 1-9

I didn’t’ face any major symptoms outside of light nausea and a few weeks of being super tired.  The only symptom I woke up every day with was worry! I wrote about that in my first #becomingmama post, but everyday in this early phase is a blessing because you just don’t know if it will be your last. Keep in mind, I found out I was pregnant the first day I missed my period..week 4. I had no idea that when you pee on that little stick and get 2 pink lines you are already a month or so in. So, for the next 5-6 weeks…I just waited. The doctor, at least my doctor, wouldn’t even see me until I was at least 10 weeks along. It felt like an eternity! All you want is information and reassurance..at least I did. I shared the news with only a small handful of people (your personal choice) and clung to my Ovia app. I clearly am not sponsored (goals though for real…) to be telling you this, but it was by far the #1 tool I used (actually I still use it) during my first trimester.

I love Ovia. The company has 3 different apps, and I have used 2. The first, Ovia Fertility helped me track my cycle and ovulation. It was super easy to use and was spot on as far as tracking goes with its technology. I almost pulled the trigger on the Ava Fertility watch, but it’s like $300 bucks. Ovia is FREE. I have heard some amazing success stories on the gram about Ava…but damn I couldn’t part with the $300 within our first year of trying.

Also, the cool thing with Ovia health is that it is transitional. So after I got pregnant, with the help of Ovia Fertility, I transitioned to the Ovia Pregnancy Tracker. You guys, this app was a game changer those first few weeks. Like I said, I craved information that I couldn’t get from the doctor…plus there is SO much information out there that it becomes overwhelming to sift through. With the help of a few friends and this app, I got all the information I needed to help ease my mind. Also, my husband and I can share it and track the growth of our baby together. That way, he can also be part of the journey with me.

Weeks 10-14

Finally it was time to see the doctor! Hearing that heartbeat was the most emotional sound I think I ever experienced….and then bam, its over in 2 seconds. haha, just keeping it real.

I think we were expecting like 5 minutes of bliss and warm cozy sunday morning feels…and we did, but for a VERY short amount of time. Fair warning, this is how every doctor appointment will be, quick and to the point. Also, prepare your husband/partner for the possible vaginal ultrasound you could get outside of the over the belly wand one you’re use to seeing in the movies. The doctor has to get all up in your business to measure and take internal pictures. The look of terror on my poor hubbys face when he saw that lubed up wand was priceless.

After our confirmed pregnancy appointment, we felt reassured enough to start telling family. Again, that is up to you. I felt like the people in our life who knew we were pregnant were already praying for us and sending us good juju that if my pregnancy were to take a turn late in my first trimester, they would be the same people who would grieve with us and be by our side praying for us to get through it. But, I am an open book…a sharer at heart….you do what you are comfortable with.

We announced on social after hitting the 12 week mark and went with a simple letter board picture. As you can see, I barely started to show by 11 weeks but did start to see my body change. I am petite, so some women show more/less in the beginning.

My first trimester was by far the slowest..we’ll see how round 3 goes. But overall, this pregnancy has flown by. I feel like I blinked and woke up 25 weeks along with a huge growing belly. Below is a list other women #becomingmama and blogs I enjoy following on Instagram.

marissa.chrzan- Fit mama of boys with such a positive vibe. She is on baby #2

katrinaascott- I am honestly just obsessed with her. She is one of the Tone It Up founders and is so inspiring. Her post-natal journey has been beautiful to watch.

bumble.baby- Great resource with articles from a sleep expert. She offers easy quick tips for mamas to follow

littleblondebook- Beautiful brave blogger who has amazing style. Mom of 2 girls with baby boy on the way.

mother.ly- You want to go here for raw and real motherhood. This media company also has an amazing podcast and book I highly encourage you to check out. Also, Katrina Scott was featured on their podcast a few months ago and its awesome!

dressupbuttercup-  She is SO cute, FTM like myself who is crushing the influencer game. What I love about her is her amazon hauls she does because finding cute maternity clothes is impossible and expensive. I have purchased at least 3 items because of her.

premamawellness- This one is for my organic mamas. There are so many supplements on the market right now, this, like Ovia is a one stop shop. I used their prenatal vitamins while preparing my body for pregnancy after I got off birth control. One of my favorite wellness brands I have tried.
